The Mink Meadow Farmhouse is a 1767 Farmhouse located on Etna Road in Etna, NH, eight minutes away from Dartmouth College and two minutes from the Appalachian Trail corridor. The Farmhouse has boasted a number of notable occupants, including Laura Bridgeman, the first deaf-blind person to learn English in the US and the Storrs family, of Storrs Pond and other Hanover fame. Today, this historic farmhouse has been significantly remodeled and is shared by two women and a dog, Liberty. And maybe you!
Now available: Two bedrooms in this historic house, each with their own closet, sitting area and/or desk. Shared access to the rest of the house, including formal living room with fireplace, sitting area, kitchen, multiple desks, dining room, deck, back yard, washer/dryer and storage space in attic or barn. Rooms come partially or fully furnished. One more room comes available September 1. I prefer a minimum lease of 3 months, then month to month, but can be flexible for traveling nurses or other short-term guests. Security deposit required. Pets negotiable with deposit.
Largest bedroom: $1350/month plus shared utilities. You will love this room if you like natural light, a large bed, and having a desk in your bedroom.
Middle bedroom: $1250/month plus shared utilities. You will love this room if you like a quiet room looking out over the stream in the backyard. It has amazing built in closet space and a full sized bed.
Smallest bedroom (available September 1): $1200/month plus shared utilities. You will love this room if you like quiet, privacy, and a recently updated boho vibe :)
Please note-- utilities are listed as included because they are already present at the property. We have a system for pro-rating utilities and charging each housemate their share on top of the rent.
Who we are: L (she/her) owns the house and lives here with Liberty, a 40 lb cattle dog who loves to hike, supervise garden improvements, and snuggle. Liberty is friendly with other animals. Lucretia went to Dartmouth and has a sister living on a farm in Lyme. L will be traveling starting in October.
S (she/her) grew up in VT and has been in the Upper Valley working remotely during the pandemic. She will be departing to experience NYC life at the end of August.
Our shared interests include hiking, skiing and running with Liberty, cooking and/or eating together a few nights a week, Listen shopping, attending local events, and hosting gatherings in the backyard.
Who you are: You like sharing space with others but you have an independent life in the UV. You enjoy the outdoors and/or gardening. You are okay with animals. You follow "Leave No Trace" ethic in shared spaces. You are comfortable with direct communication. You have a strong sense of integrity. You view home as a sanctuary.
Why you will love living here: The house has great vibes, is filled with plants and books, and comfortable places to recharge. The Mink Meadow Farm Stand is across the street, filled with fresh local veggies, milk and eggs. We are a five minute walk from the Etna Country Store, recently remodeled and open with a great selection of groceries, wine, beer and household items. We have our own library and post office, both a short walk from the house, and miles of hiking trails nearby. Oh, and it's less than 5 miles to Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Hospital.
Why you might not love living here: There are 1.5 baths in the house, if you are looking for a private shower this is not the place for you. We are on Etna Road, and there are cars passing, so if road noise bothers you this might not be a great place. The house is old. We do not have AC or super tightly sealed anything. Rooms are not set up with locks at this time. The driveway holds 6 cars but we may block each other in. We believe in transparent communication and want you to know what this place is and isn't!
